WELCOME !!!
…to the 2017 ParaVolley Pan America Sitting Volleyball Championships!
After months of preparation and days of travel, teams faced off from October 26-29 2017 in Montreal Canada to decide who will be the Zone Champion and who will qualify for the 2018 World ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball World Championships!
Brazil men and USA women are GOLDEN!
The Brazilian men prevailed over the USA in what turned out to be one of the most feisty and exciting matches of the competition, winning the Gold medal 3-1 (25-17, 25-23, 22-25, 25-16) in a repeat of the result form the 2015 Parapan Am Games. USA fought valiantly towards the end of the second set, and Brazil was certainly on their heels but eventually won the set by the smallest of margins. Set three saw BRA leading 20-18, but the USA went on a run of points to take the lead at 22-21, and eventually winning the set 25-22. Set 4 saw BRA step up their game, and win in convincing fashion to take the Gold. Both finalists qualified for the 2018 World ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball World Championships.
In the women’s final, USA continued their winning ways, defeating Brazil 3-0 (25-16-25-10, 25-16), repeating as Zonal Champions. The USA did not lose a set all competition – they are a very strong team with good depth on their roster, and simply proved to be too much for all other teams to handle here in Montreal.
Canada won the Bronze medal in both the men’s and women’s competitions. The Canadian women’s team qualified for the 2018 World Championships due to the fact that the USA had already gained a berth due to their Rio 2016 Paralympic Games Gold medal performance.
