It is widely recognised that Coaches are a key driving force behind sport development.  It takes a unique character to commit to building a team and to take them to compete at competitions.

This work is multifaceted and is considerably more subjective than any other workforce area (Refereeing, Classification, Technical Officials etc). However this just increases the potential for what can be learnt.

The World ParaVolley coaching pathway is a key area of work of the Coaches Commission (more details at bottom of page) and covers all essential topics required by forward thinking and progressive coaches who wish to succeed on the court.

Coaching Pathway

For those just starting out with the sport, the VolleySLIDE materials cover all aspects of the sport and are often the best place to start when beginning to deliver sitting volleyball activities.  Beyond this there are two levels of coaching qualification available:

At this time the projected launch dates for the two new hybrid courses are as follows:

Level 1 – Spring 2025

Level 2 – January 2025

Applications are open already but candidates will only start to be registered onto courses once they are officially launched.

Candidate Road Map

Whilst some of the specifics do differ between the Level 1 and Level 2 course, the general flow of becoming certified is similar.

Frequently asked Questions:

How are the courses structured?

Both the level 1 and level 2 courses are hybrid by nature.  Candidates can apply at any time and once they prove they meet the pre-requisites they pay the relevant WPV course registration fee (L1 – 150 EUR | L2 – 100 EUR) and then get in enrolled onto Part A – on-line based learning on e-ParaVolley.  Once this is completed candidates submit an expression of interest for Part B, a practical face to face gathering of lots of candidates and appointed Coach Tutors.  Once both of these parts are completed to the expected level, they receive their diploma.

How do you start the Level 1 or Level 2 course?

Applying to start one of the two qualifications is easy.  Simply check that you meet the pre-requisites (see specific course page for more information) and then complete the below linked application form:
Level 1 Application Form
Level 2 Application Form
Remember to send off any required documents and someone will get back to you to accept or decline your application.

How are the candidates assessed?

Rather than a formal exam, candidates are assessed continuously from start to finish through each course. Part A e-learning content includes Portfolio activities to complement the learning (Portfolios to be brought to Practical).  Then there are Knowledge Checks integrated into each module to pick out key points.  Each course also requires a number of Self Study tasks to be undertaken which are reviewed by the Coach Tutors prior to attending Practical.  For Part B, there must be active participation in all sessions & activities, including an observation in training and a match situation.  Level 2 also includes a group presentation.

What languages are the courses in?

All materials and courses are prepared in English – the working language of World ParaVolley.  We are working on Moodle and there are plans to make Part A multilingual, while the practical (Part A) can be delivered in any language should there be enough interest for that.

Testimonials

“The coaching courses feature a new innovative approach by starting with a very engaging and comprehensive e-learning course and concluding with a challenging and thought provoking practical part.  I enjoyed exploring the wide range of coaching styles and the found the dynamic approach of the Tutors really engaging and useful.”

Massimo Beretta (Italy)

“I successfully completed my Level 2 Coaching Diploma with great support from all involved.  The facilitators and tutors of the program were world class and it was an honour to have met so many amazing coaches from across the world and learn from their experiences.  Having undertaken a range of International coaching programs in various countries and sports previously, I was highly impressed by the quality of this course and it’s content. I look forward to now supporting athlete and coach development in our Pacific region as well as advocating for the opportunities in ParaVolley to grow more continental members”

Aaron Alsop (Solomon Islands)
