Hangzhou, China, 10 June 2025 – The Preliminary Round of the 2025 PVAO Sitting Volleyball Zonal Championships concluded on Wednesday at the WPV Development Centre, confirming the semi-finalists for women and men. 

Hosts China, Thailand, Iran and Japan confirmed their women’s semi-finals slots, while the men’s Final Four include China, Thailand, Kazakhstan and Japan. 

Home team China clinched their semis berth as the top team in women’s Group A, after defeating Korea, 3-0 (26-6, 25-9, 25-7) on Wednesday morning. 

Thailand split their matches earlier in the Preliminary Round, garnering  enough points for second place in Group A. 

Meanwhile. Iran completed a sweep of women’s Group B, following a 3-0 defeat (25-4, 25-8, 25-13) of Mongolia.

In the men’s event, China and Thailand wrestled for the top spot in Group A, with the home team succeeding, 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-17). 

Despite the defeat,  Thailand managed to earn a semi-finals spot as the second ranked team in Group A.

Kazakhstan emerged as Group B leader, stamping their semi-finals slot with straight sets, 3-0 (25-5, 25-11, 25-11) against Australia.

Japan also confirmed their Final Four appearance on Wednesday afternoon after winning 3-0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-8) against Saudi Arabia, to gain second place in Group B. 

Teams head to rest and recovery on Thursday, as matches resume for the semi-finals on Friday, June 13.
