As a professional International Sports Federation, World ParaVolley has an ongoing responsibility to educate and train International Classifiers that are capable of delivering high quality classification services for ParaVolley athletes.

Classification groups athletes by ability to ensure fair competition.  A classification system is required in para-sports to reduce the competitive disadvantage from the range of impairments athletes may have.  International federations require classifiers to assess how impairments affect performance, ensuring athletes compete in the correct classes.  This upholds the fairness and integrity of the competition.

World ParaVolley has devised an education and training pathway for International Classifiers that provides them with the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to deliver classification evaluation at the highest possible standard.

Full details on the the steps to become a certified Classifier can be found in the Classifier Pathway document.

Level 1

The World ParaVolley Level 1 Classifier Course is the entry level training program for a person wishing to become a World ParaVolley Classifier. The course is open to people who have the pre-requisite medical or Physiotherapy qualifications and covers the core requirements and competencies required to be certified as a Level 1 Classifier.

A Level 1 Classifier is a National Classifier who is able to conduct national level classification for players of their own country as part of a National Classification Panel. Level 1 is also the first step to becoming an international classifier for those who meet the prerequisite requirements and successfully undergo the required training provided by World ParaVolley.

– Number of Modules:12 (2 per week)

– Duration: 6 weeks

The online course is delivered over 6 weeks in English, on an online learning platform. Trainees are required to complete all required modules, including attendance at 2-3 video conferences, completion of each module theory reading and activities, participation in group forums, completion of theory assessments.

How to apply:

Complete the Level 1 Classifier Expression of Interest Form

For those Level 1 classifiers who have no involvement with their national ParaVolley teams, and who have good English shills, there is the opportunity to train further to become an international classifier. International classifiers work in teams to provide international level classification at official ParaVolley events

Level 2

This is the first level of international classifier – these classifiers must always work in a team with a Level 3 Classifier, and cannot be a Chief Classifier. Training involved an online component and a practical training at an agreed international ParaVolley event, supervised by a senior educator.

How to apply:

Complete the Level 2 Classifier Expression of Interest Form

Level 3

This final level of classifier allows the person to lead a classification panel and to act as a Chief Classifier at international ParaVolley events. The training is mostly practical in format and may involve more than one event.
