Level 1 Coaching Course re-launched with new flexible hybrid approach

Following the launch of the sitting volleyball level 2 coaching course, the Coaches Commission are pleased to announce that the level 1 preceding course is also now open for ongoing applications by coaches around the world.  Designed to enable flexibility, students can start and complete the e-learning part at any time and then progress to the practical part when a suitable one is confirmed.

The qualification has been developed for club and national team assistant coaches who are eager to extend their technical and tactical knowledge of sitting volleyball. It equips coaches with the essential skills to develop players, create engaging training sessions, increase the level of their team and promote the sport’s growth at all levels.  On the coaching pathway, the level 1 sits above VolleySLIDE and leads candidates onto the level 2 and mentoring programmes when appropriate.

The course offers a development and progressive approach to coaching. By the end, participants will know:

– How to set-up an appropriate and safe training environment
– The player eligibility requirements and talent ID (suitability and classification)
– How to support athletes in developing a performance lifestyle
– The key technical points for a range of skills and bank of drills to develop them
– A selection of team systems and how to build towards them
– How athletes learn and coaching philosophies which support this

“We are really excited to have further developed our level 1 coaching course and offer this opportunity to coaches worldwide,” said Matt Rogers, World ParaVolley Coaches Commission Team Leader. “The course is positioned to further support and develop elite coaches within the zones and contribute to the sport’s continued growth.  Thank you to all those who have been part of the course creation journey.”

Course Structure & Requirements

The course consists of two parts.  Candidates can apply to start the course at any time and then look to join a practical course when a suitable one is available – however both parts must be completed within 2 years of starting the course.

Part A: e-learning, Knowledge Checks and Self Study (15 hours approx.)

The e-learning module introduces foundational concepts and theory, which can be worked through at each individual candidate’s own pace.  The content consists of 16 modules and integrated within are Knowledge Checks and Self Study assignments, along with the production of a (non-assessed) Coaching Portfolio.

Part B: Practical (2 days)

Practical face-to-face sessions are designed to enable candidates to apply the knowledge gained in Part A, in both training and competitive environments, as well as learn from the other candidates on the course and the experienced Coach Tutors.

Candidate assessment is ongoing and continuous, using the e-learning knowledge checks, self study tasks, active participation in sessions & activities and training session planning and observation.

The course costs 150 EUR, payable on starting the e-learning part, along with the costs associated in attending the practical part of the court – the amount for this will vary based on timing and location.  For a limited time, this is being reduced to 100 EUR as part of the course launch.
