Canberra Hosts Successful World ParaVolley Level 2 Coaching Course

Another World ParaVolley Level 2 Coaching Course concluded in Canberra last week, bringing together a diverse and motivated group of coaches for an intensive week of learning and development. Organised by Volleyball Australia, the internal (not publicly advertised) course featured nine candidates representing three different nationalities, highlighting both the growing reach and collaborative spirit of sitting volleyball across their country.

Hosted at the Australian Institute of Sport, the course combined classroom-based learning with practical, on-court sessions. A key feature of the week was the opportunity to engage with a concurrent Team Australia training camp, allowing participants to both lead sessions and observe elite athletes in action. This integration of theory and high-performance practice provided a valuable real-world context for the coaches.

Coach Tutor Nicole Ban praised the group’s engagement and the overall environment created throughout the course:

“I’ve had a fantastic week at the Australian Institute of Sport delivering the WPV Level 2 course in Canberra. The group brought real curiosity, motivation, and a willingness to explore new ideas around sitting volleyball, which made it such a rewarding experience.
Alongside the course, we were lucky to have a Team Australia training camp running, giving coaches the opportunity to both lead sessions and observe the country’s top athletes in action. That kind of environment accelerates learning in a powerful way.
It’s incredibly encouraging to see the growth of sitting volleyball across Australia, and these coaches are playing a huge role in driving that progress.
A big thank you to Volleyball Australia for hosting such an outstanding course and creating a space for learning, collaboration, and development.”

The course not only strengthened the technical knowledge of the participants but also reinforced the importance of innovation and shared learning in the development of the sport.

WPV Coaching Team Leader Matt Rogers also emphasised the organisation’s commitment to expanding its global coaching network:

“World ParaVolley is always looking to work with new course organisers around the world to continue growing our coaching pathway. With more than 400 coaches already having completed our courses, the demand and opportunity to further develop the global sitting volleyball community has never been greater.”
