Brazil, Kazakhstan power ahead at World Cup

Brazil women and Kazakhstan men extended their unbeaten runs at the 2025 World ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball World Cup on Tuesday at the Turnstone Center in Fort Wayne, tightening their grip on the standings midway through pool play.

Brazil remained the only undefeated team after defeating Italy 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-17) in the women’s tournament. The South Americans won each set with consistent scoring margins to complete their third straight win.

The United States improved their standing with a 3-0 (25-13, 26-24, 25-23) victory over Canada. The home team dominated the first set, edged the second by two points, and closed the third narrowly to even their record with Canada at 2-1.

Germany produced the day’s only five-set match, rallying from two sets down to beat the Netherlands 3-2 (15-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23, 15-10). The result gave Germany their first win of the tournament after a strong recovery midway through the contest.

In the men’s event, Kazakhstan strengthened their lead in Pool A with two straight-set victories to remain perfect after four matches. They opened the day with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-22) win over Canada, taking early control in the first two sets before holding off a closer finish in the third. In their second match, Kazakhstan defeated France 3-0 (25-21, 25-10, 25-14), taking the opening frame narrowly before completing the sweep with two more decisive sets.

Egypt also stayed unbeaten after a 3-1 (25-22, 12-25, 25-12, 25-13) win against Croatia. The African team recovered quickly after dropping the second set to regain control and close out the match in four to extend their record to 4-0.

The United States registered its fourth victory with a 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-21, 25-20) result against Poland. The hosts split the opening two sets before edging ahead in the third and fourth to secure their second win of the competition.

Brazil posted two wins in Pool B to stay unbeaten. They swept Japan 3-0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-17) in the morning session, then returned in the evening to beat the Netherlands 3-1 (25-8, 25-22, 25-13). Thailand earned their second victory after a 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 13-25, 25-23) result over Italy, while Australia overcame India 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-17, 25-20) to round out the men’s results.

With the preliminary round now past its midpoint, competition remains open across both tournaments as teams move closer to the knockout rounds later in the week in Fort Wayne.
