The Federacion Colombiana de Paravoleibol hosted a successful World ParaVolley Level 1 Coaching Course, designed to strengthen knowledge and enhance the experiences of coaches in Sitting Volleyball.
The course took place from October 1 to 3, 2025, in Bogotá, Colombia, and brought together 29 participants from Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Peru, and Chile, all united by the common goal of acquiring the technical and methodological foundations needed to improve their coaching processes for sitting volleyball teams.
This was the first Level 1 course delivered under World ParaVolley’s new educational format, which consists of two parts:
- Part A, completed beforehand through virtual self-paced learning, and
- Part B, an entirely in-person and practical component, which was held in Bogotá, Colombia.
Over two days of intensive training, participants engaged in practical sessions led by a team of World ParaVolley Coach Tutors: Lázaro Beltrán (USA), Fernando Guimarães (BRA), and Gini Tunney (COL). These experts shared their knowledge on key topics such as game rules, training planning (session components), teaching of technical skills, and developing strategies to support the learning process of athletes who are new to sitting volleyball.
“The Level 1 course is an excellent foundation for improving coaching skills in sitting volleyball,” said one of the participants. “I learned not only about the sport, but also about the importance of inclusion and adaptation in training.”
The course also emphasized collaboration among coaches, providing a space for participants to exchange ideas and teaching approaches. This initial certification stage marks a significant step toward strengthening the global development of sitting volleyball.
The event demonstrated the regions strong commitment to the growth of para sport in the region.
Matt Rogers, WPV Coaching Team Leader, expressed his delight at the impact of the course; “This is the first of five courses to close 2025, the year that we re-launched our coach education pathway. It has been great to hear about all of the positive experiences and a massive thank you to our Coach Tutors. The hosts also did a fantastic job and I am really proud that 29 enthusiastic coaches will return to their regions empowered to get more people enjoying the thrills of Sitting Volleyball!”
