
Brazil and Kazakhstan maintained their unbeaten runs in the men’s competition, while Brazil’s women continued their dominance on Wednesday at the Turnstone Center as Day 4 of the 2025 World ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball World Cup showcased another round of preliminary round action.
Kazakhstan extended their perfect record to five matches after a thrilling five-set battle with hosts United States, winning 3-2 (27-25, 25-21, 22-25, 17-25, 15-12). The result kept the Kazakhs on top of the standings after earlier victories against Italy, Canada, France and Poland.
Poland also stayed in strong contention as they opened the day’s programme with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-18) win against Thailand and later commanded a 3-0 (25-18, 25-9, 25-19) result over Italy. Canada fought back from two sets down to defeat Thailand 3-2 (24-26, 23-25, 27-25, 25-19, 15-9) in one of the day’s most dramatic matches.
Brazil also remained perfect, improving to 5-0 after a 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-12) win over Egypt. The result handed the North Africans their first loss of the tournament. Croatia dominated their double duty with two sweeps against India 3-0 (25-7, 25-10, 25-3) and Australia 3-0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-9), while Japan celebrated their first victory by defeating the Netherlands 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-23).
In the women’s event, Brazil strengthened their position at the top of the standings with another straight-sets victory, beating Canada 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-17) to stay unbeaten through four matches.
The United States also impressed, sweeping Germany 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-10) to recover and record their third straight win following an opening day defeat to Italy. The Italians, meanwhile, improved to 2-2 after a convincing 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-23) result against the Netherlands to keep their semifinal hopes alive.
As the preliminary round nears its conclusion, three teams remain unbeaten: Kazakhstan and Brazil in the men’s competition, and Brazil in the women’s. The final day of preliminary play continues Thursday before the knockout rounds begin.
