USA teams deliver as World Cup intensifies in Fort Wayne

Both USA teams shone on Monday at the 2025 World ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball World Cup, energising the Turnstone Center crowd with commanding victories that highlighted a strong showing for the hosts. USA men strengthened their perfect record to 3-0, matching the pace of 2023 World Cup silver medallists Egypt, while USA women rebounded from their opening day defeat to Italy to claim their first win of the tournament.

USA men opened Day 2 with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-16) win over Canada and later in the evening added another straight-sets victory, this time over Italy 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-17). The result kept the hosts unbeaten after three matches, all won in straight sets.

Egypt mirrored that success with two straight-sets results, defeating Japan 3-0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-22) in the morning before beating Australia 3-0 (25-6, 25-7, 25-8) to remain unbeaten. Both teams now share the lead in the men’s standings after two days of play.

In the other matches in the men’s field, Kazakhstan started the day with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-11) victory over Poland. Brazil came from two sets down to complete a 3-2 (17-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-14, 15-8) comeback win against Croatia. The Netherlands earned a 3-0 (25-5, 25-9, 25-11) result over India , while Thailand closed the day with a straight-sets win against France (25-15, 25-17, 25-19), adding further balance to Pool A.

In the women’s competition, USA women secured a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-13) victory against the Netherlands to record their first win of the event. The result lifted the team after Sunday’s five-set loss to Italy and marked an encouraging response in the preliminary round.

Canada continued their strong start, defeating Italy 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 26-24) to improve to 2-0. The 2023 silver medallists now share the same record as Brazil, who also claimed their second win with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-13) result over Germany. Both teams sit among the early leaders in the women’s standings.

The second day of competition concluded with momentum building across both tournaments. With USA and Egypt maintaining their unbeaten form and Canada and Brazil asserting early control, the action at the Turnstone Center is setting up for an intense continuation of pool play in Fort Wayne.
