Brazil blaze past Italy with sweep at Women’s Super 6

Brazil showed a commanding display of skill as they triumphed over Italy with a scoreline of 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-19) in the 2024 WPV Women’s Super 6 at Parc des Sports de Vandoeuvre in Nancy, France, on Saturday.

The match began with both teams showcasing their intensity, resulting in a tightly contested start with a tied score of 4-all. However, Brazil soon gained the upper hand as Suellen Cristine Dellangelica Lima’s strong plays gave them a two-point lead. Pamela Pereira extended this advantage to 16-12 with a powerful serve. Brazil’s formidable defence thwarted the Italian attackers, and their potent serves further widened the gap. An attack error by Italy handed the first set to Brazil, ending at 25-15.

The second set saw Suellen continue her excellent form, going on a serving spree that propelled Brazil to an early 5-0 lead. Italy struggled to find their rhythm but managed to deflect Suellen’s serve to score their first point of the set. Janaina Petit Cunha’s effective attacks ensured Brazil maintained their lead, extending it to 8-3.

Italy briefly regrouped and reduced the deficit to 10-8, but Brazil quickly pulled away again, building an 18-10 lead. The set concluded at 25-12 in Brazil’s favour, following another attack error from Italy’s Flavia Barigelli.

The third set mirrored the earlier stages, with both teams locked in a close battle initially. However, a series of errors from Italy allowed Brazil to secure a 7-4 advantage. Despite Italy’s efforts to close the gap, Petit’s relentless spikes kept Brazil’s lead intact.

Maintaining a steady pace, Brazil kept their three-point advantage and held on until the end. At match point, Brazil sealed their victory with a final kill, concluding the set and match at 25-19.
