2025 Webinars
The 2025 Series focused on Coach Education, with five webinars all ran through July covering a range of topics that offering something for coaches of all levels of ParaVolley. World-class experts shared cutting-edge knowledge aligned with WPV’s educational principles.
Hosted by commentator Dave Rogers, each session featured a thought-provoking and concise 25–30 minute presentation followed by a dynamic Q&A.
Registration was required via the e-ParaVolley platform. WPV Level 1 & 2 qualified coaches, and those working through WPV coaching courses, could join live for free, while others could participate for a small fee.
1 – Growing the Game with VolleySLIDE
Exploring good practices for grassroots volleyball development, John Kessel and Matt Rogers share their experiences in growing sport, particularly sitting volleyball, at community level. Discussion focused on practical strategies for introducing volleyball in new and underserved regions, the importance of accessible resources, and how initiatives such as VolleySLIDE have supported global development through free, adaptable tools. The session also highlighted real-world examples of successful programs and key principles for building sustainable, inclusive pathways that encourage long-term participation.
2 – Coaching to Different Disabilities
Focusing on best practices for coaching athletes with disabilities in sitting volleyball, examining how different types of impairments can influence training, performance, and team dynamics. Discussion centred on practical coaching adaptations, inclusive approaches that support high performance, and real-world examples of effective practice. The session also highlighted the importance of fostering positive team culture and shared strategies for supporting athletes with diverse needs.
3 – Bench Management to Impact the Game
Examining how effective bench management can influence performance in sitting volleyball, with Canada’s Women’s Sitting Volleyball Head Coach Nicole Ban sharing insights from her decade of coaching experience. The discussion covered the evolution of in-match support tools, from basic note-taking to the use of video delay, live statistics, and tactical data at the Paralympic level. Key topics included pre-match planning, communicating game plans to athletes, coordinated staff decision-making, and the importance of strong relationships and clear communication under pressure, alongside the balance between having a clear plan and remaining adaptable during competition.
4 – Sport Psychology for Maximum Performance
The webinar explored how sport psychology can enhance athlete performance, emphasizing that mental wellness is key to peak performance. Discussion focused on practical, evidence-based strategies for building resilience, maintaining focus, and boosting confidence and motivation in high-pressure situations. Coaches learned actionable techniques to support both elite and grassroots athletes, demonstrating how fostering a healthy mindset can directly contribute to sustained performance and a competitive edge.
5 – Coach Performance Modelling
Exploring the importance of an ecological systems approach to coach development, emphasizing the interconnected factors that influence athlete growth. Discussion focused on a holistic coaching framework that goes beyond technical and tactical training, integrating the broader environment in which coaches and athletes operate. Practical examples were shared on applying this approach in coach education and performance settings, highlighting strategies to support both athlete wellbeing and performance.

1 – Down but not out – the inside edge on mental health
This webinar focuses on the vital role of mental health and well-being in the lives of parasport athletes navigating the demands of training, competition, expectations, and life beyond sport. Through expert insight from clinical and sport psychologist Dr. Debra Alexander and powerful personal perspectives from Paralympians Greg Stewart and Elvira Stinissen, the discussion openly addresses challenges, resilience, and recovery. The panel shares practical advice, best practices, and lived experiences, offering meaningful pathways to support mental health, reduce stigma, and help athletes sustain both performance and well-being throughout their sporting journeys.
2 – Mental performance on and around the court – from knowledge to practice
This webinar brings together athletes, coaches, and technical officials to explore practical approaches to optimizing mental preparation and performance in sport. Featuring insights from sport psychology expert Dr. Christian Zepp, six-time Paralympian Juergen Schrapp, and elite coaches Bill Hamiter and Greg Walker, the session examines common sport-related stressors, effective coping strategies, and the critical role of teamwork, communication, and supportive environments. Drawing on both scientific knowledge and real-world experience, the panel offers actionable tools and perspectives to help individuals consistently bring their “A game” on and off the court.
3 – Safeguarding – It’s Everyone’s Responsibility
This webinar focuses on safeguarding our athletes and the fact that all our World ParaVolley participants’ mental and physical well-being is of paramount importance. What is safeguarding in sport and what does it involve? How can you help to ensure that violence, abuse and harassment is not tolerated in any ParaVolley environment? It is the responsibility of all of us, whether we are athletes, coaches, ITOs, board members, to recognize, respond, and report/refer those persons who may require safeguarding, and for organizations to respond appropriately.
