Tokyo 2020 Day 10 preview: USA and China in fourth Paralympic final showdown

Day 10 features one final match in women’s sitting volleyball between Rio 2016 gold medallists United States and runners-up China vying for the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games at Makuhari Messe Hall on Saturday.

The Chinese squad won three consecutive gold medals since women’s sitting volleyball was included in the sports programme of the Paralympic Games in Athens 2004.

Five years ago, USA ended China’s reign in women’s sitting volleyball with 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-18) win in Rio de Janeiro, after finishing with a bronze medal at Athens 2004 and silver medals at Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

These two teams met in the preliminary round of Tokyo 2020, and the Asian team defeated the North American side in straight sets (25-17, 25-22, 26-24). Their phenomenal semifinal performances set the date for their fourth Paralympic gold medal showdown at 10.00 local time to decide whether USA will retain their title or China will steal the spotlight for their fourth gold medal.
