Hangzhou, China, 8 June 2025 – Seven women’s teams and eight men’s teams are set to chase the title at the 2025 PVAO Sitting Volleyball Championships, slated from June 9-14, 2025 in Zhejiang Province’s capital city.
The Championships’ Opening Ceremony, held at the at the WPV Development Centre on Sunday evening, showcased Hangzhou’s rich tradition and impressive artistry through music and dance.
Local artists with disability showcased their talent, much to the delight of athletes, team officials, technical officials and other esteemed guests in attendance.
Competing in Women’s Pool A are Korea, Thailand and hosts China, while Pool B consists of Australia, Iran, Japan and Mongolia.
In the Men’s Pools, Korea, Thailand, Mongolia and hosts China are drawn into Pool A, while Australia, Japan, Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia play in Pool B.
The Preliminary Round is scheduled from June 9–11 as teams compete in a single round-robin format to determine rankings per pool.
Teams then head into a rest and recovery day on Thursday, June 12, with enough time and energy for the top two teams in each pool to play off in the semi-finals on Friday, June 13.
The winners’ trophy will be up for grabs at the title matches on Saturday, June 14, but contenders will likewise await the confirmation of the two best ranked teams (with the exception of the hosts) to qualify directly for the 2026 Sitting Volleyball World Championships.
China have been confirmed as hosts in 2026 as the World Championships return to Asia featuring a double-gender event. Tehran, Iran hosted (and won) the men’s event in 1998, while the women’s event has not been held in any country or territory in Asia across the past eight editions of the competition.
