International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Saturday, 3 December 2016 is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities – a day designated by the UN that applies worldwide.

The theme for 2016 relates to Achieving Goals for the Future We Want – a very suitable theme for World ParaVolley as we continue to plan to offer opportunities for ParaVolley athletes throughout our membership in all areas of the world.

Within World ParaVolley we focus on the athletes who continue to amaze us with their positive spirit, at times against great adversity, as they overcome their physical impairments and participate in our Volleyball disciplines.

We know from experience that participation in physical activity can bring a range of social, psychological and physical benefits for people with an impairment and in particular, that ParaVolley is a great tool for a rounded rehabilitation of the individual.

We should always have our athletes “front and centre” in our planning and decision-making and 3 December is a reminder that all our efforts in shaping the future we want for our sport, will be worthwhile if we retain that focus.
