The world is in for a preview of the 2020 Paralympics!
A few months ahead of the 2020 Paralympic Games, Tokyo will be hosting the third edition of the women’s World Super 6 event slated on 12 to 17 November 2019.
Participating countries will be selected from the top-ranked teams in the world via a special invitation, with the hosts, Japan, automatically qualifying for the tournament. The World ParaVolley and the Japan ParaVolleyball Association will choose the final World Super 6 teams.
China hosted the first World Super 6 edition in Hangzhou in 2017 when Russia clinched the first ever crown after defeating USA, 3-1 (25-23, 16-25, 25-17, 25-18). The reigning Olympic champs’ Heather Erickson was hailed as the tournament MVP.
The second World Super 6 edition in Chengdu, China last year saw the hosts claim the gold after defeating then-reigning champions Russia in a tightly contested match, 3-2 (29-27, 25-12, 27-29, 18-25, 15-13). Ukraine’s Elina Bezprozvanna took home the MVP plum.
