Slovenia win ParaVolley Europe Men’s New Nations Tournament

The Slovenia Men’s Sitting Volleyball team took out the honours at the ParaVolley Europe Men’s Subzone New Nations Tournament in Tourcoing, France on Sunday.

The two-day tournament also featured hosts France, the Czech Republic and world No. 37 Georgia.

Slovenia beat the Czech Republic and Georgia on Saturday before beating France in straight sets on Sunday morning and Georgia 2-1 in the final.

The Czech Republic finished third by beating France 2-0 in the bronze medal match.

The Complexe Sportif Léo Lagrange in Tourcoing, which hosted the Davis Cup tennis semifinal between France and Spain earlier this month, provided the four countries with the chance to play at the highest level, with the Paralympics and World Championships the ultimate goal.

Europe was represented by Russia, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and Croatia in the 2018 World ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball Men’s World Championship in the Netherlands in July with Russia the highest finisher in fifth.

Earlier in the week, the World ParaVolley Sports Department, with the close cooperation of its Referee Commission and the ParaVolley Europe New Nations Subzone Sitting Volleyball Men’s Tournament 2018 Organisers, organised a Level 3 Referee Course and a Level 1 Classifier Course.
