Parapan American Games 2027: Baranquilla’s hosting rights withdrawn

The Americas Paralympic Committee announced that Panam Sports Executive Committee has unanimously decided to withdraw Baranquilla, Colombia as the Host City of the XX Pan American Games and the VIII Parapan American Games due to several breaches of the Host City Contract.

Pan Sports and the Americas Paralympic Committee reiterated its commitment to the development and promotion of Para sport and its athletes, and the two organisations are working together to find a new host for the Games in 2027.

Sitting volleyball became part of the sport programme of the Parapan American Games in 2003 in Mar del Plata, Argentina, and since then has been included in every succeeding edition of the Games until 2019 in Lima, Peru.

The Brazilian men’s team and the United States women’s team topped the podium of the Lima 2019 Games but were not able to defend its titles in Santiago, Chile in 2023, as sitting volleyball was not included in the programme.
