India 1’s Datar Deewarata/Abhishek Aluwala/Sahir Ali Mallick and Slovakia’s Rudolf Makovini/Martin Dubovsky/Juraj Kucej led the first day of the men’s pool play round of the Beach ParaVolley World Series in Pingtan on Thursday.
India 1 and Slovakia collected two wins each by way of default and straight-set victory in their respective matches on Day 1.
India 1 earned the bye in their first match then topped Australia’s Nic Kaiser/Nic Coburn/Bradley Barclay 2-0 (23-21, 21-17) to gain Pool A leadership, while Slovakia started with a 2-0 (21-3, 21-3) win over India 2’s Naresshyadav Ragula/Mahesh Deeravath/Virendra Singh and won their second match by default to lead Pool B.
Germany’s Torben Schiewe/Heiko Wiesenthal/Elmar Sommer and Poland 1’s Adam Stephen/Artur Wasowicz/Rafal Wojtowicz likewise claimed two wins on opening day to trail India 1 and Slovakia in their respective pools.
The Germans beat Poland 2’s Bartolomiej Synoweic/Jacek Molinski/Michal Wypych 2-0 (21-10, 21-17) and Australia 2-0 (21-19, 21-8), while the Poles won by default against the United States and then triumphed India 2 in straight sets (21-9, 21-7).
Meanwhile, China’s Li Min/Xu Danshu/Chen Yalin outclassed USA’s Autum Reagan/Meredith Gross/Skye McDermott 2-0 (21-16, 21-14) in the women’s tournament.
Men’s Pool play will continue on Friday with seven more matches to be played starting at 09:00 (GMT +8), while the China and USA play their second match in the women’s tournament at 13:00.
