Bangkok, Thailand, June 12, 2019 – Cambodia celebrated their first ever win at the ParaVolley Asia Oceania Sitting Volleyball Championships, following their 3-1 (25-22, 25-10, 16-25, 25-20) defeat of Japan at the Huamark Indoor Stadium on Wednesday.
Cambodia opened the match with two set victories with a 25-22 and 25-10 scorelines. The Southeast Asian side’s staggering performance involved an aggressive attack system and tough net defence that simply put their rivals helpless in the first two sets.
Japan extended the match to a fourth set after a 25-16 win in the third frame, utilising their seasoned players Koji Tanaka and Masahiko Kato, who led the charge on both offence and defence.
The Japanese team led in the fourth set but the momentum shifted back to the Cambodian side, as the latter persistently fought for every ball and win the point at will. Finally, the East Asians yielded to the onslaught of the Cambodians with a five-point margin at 25-20.
