WPV and IWAS call for expression of interest for beach paravolley event at Guttman Games

After more than two years, World ParaVolley is excited with the possibility of an international beach paravolley event taking place in Portugal as part of the IWAS Festival of Sport’s 1st IWAS Guttman Games to be held from October 7 to 13 in Vila Real de San Atonio in Portugal.

The Guttman Games will be held in honour of Sir Ludwig Guttman, father of the Paralympic Movement and founder of IWAS, in recognition of his legacy in growing Para sports.

The WPV is pleased to partner with IWAS on this wonderful opportunity to deliver an important event for both organisations. The Games will uniquely provide sports not on the Paralympic programme, with an international multi-sport opportunity where exciting programmes like beach paravolley, wheelchair cricket and surfing taster sessions are being offered.

Classification will be available, and the event will carry WPV beach paravolley ranking points equivalent to a World Championship series event.

As part of planning for the Games, IWAS and WPV are inviting the athletes, coaches and team staff to participate in the Games, first by accomplishing the Expression of Interest (EOI) form to assist us as we move to develop our plans for the event.

Access the form by clicking on the image below:

A final decision on whether the Games will proceed will be made in late July, therefore WPV members interested to participate in the event must accomplish and submit the form by June 30, 2021.

Should you have any questions about the event, please contact Stephen Giugni, WPV Assistant Sport Director – Beach at beachevents@worldparavolley.org.
