Sitting volleyball gets boost in Indonesia

After successfully hosting the 11th ASEAN Para Games earlier this year in Solo, Indonesia, where sitting volleyball was featured as one of the most popular disciplines, the nation is making significant efforts to foster the development of the sport through organisation of local tournaments.

The West Java Paralympic Committee is organising the West Java Sitting Volleyball Championships, which is taking place from November 24 to 26 at the Grand Wisata Sports Centre.

The preliminary round will be played from November 24-25, followed by the semifinals and the finals on November 26.

The regional Paralympic committee has been organising the event for the third time since 2014 and sitting volleyball participation in the region has grown in popularity since then.

In the first edition, there were only six teams that participated in the event, but the latest edition has gathered a total of 19 teams, including 14 men’s teams and five women’s teams.

The event will also provide an opportunity for the selection of players who will represent the province of West Java at the National Para Games in 2024.
