Review of 2019 World ParaVolley Board Meeting

In order to push forward the common development of sports for the disabled, promote international exchanges and cooperation with the World Disabled Sports Organizations, and improve the research and practice of sports for the disabled in China, World ParaVolley(WPV) held its 2019 Board Meeting at the World ParaVolley Hangzhou Development Center from March 10-15.

WPV President Barry Couzner presided over the meeting, which also included Vice-President Wayne Hellquist, the Zone Presidents of Asia Oceania (PVAO) Lu Cailiang, Europe (PVE) Branko Mihorko, Africa (PVA) Dr Hayat Khattab and the Athletes Committee President Jose Rebelo.

During the meeting, the efforts and work made for sitting volleyball by each zone in 2018 were presented; while comments and summaries on the motions of the WPV board meeting of November 2018 were also provided. The WPV Board also readjusted and planned the organizational structure of each zone in 2019; prospected and deployed the cooperation with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB); developed and researched the scientific research and training project of Paravolley; especially the popularization and promotion of beach volleyball as a new project, which has been discussed and studied from various aspects such as rules, etc.

In order to improve the development the sport of world paravolley, Couzner, along with Lu , Weiping Tu, the Director of the WPV Hangzhou Development Center and Louise Ashcroft the WPV Medical Department Director, visited Beijing Sports University from March 7-10, to explore scientific research and medical evaluation opportunities around paravolley for ther betterment of the sport.

The visit, which the China Goalball teams use as a base, will better promote the development of sports for the disabled in China and enhance China’s international influence in the field of sports for the disabled in the world.

The World ParaVolley Board completed its meeting by taking a visit of the China Goalball Base and the Sports Training and Guidance Center for the Disabled of Zhejiang Province as well.
