New host for the 2020 Sitting Volleyball World Cup announced

World ParaVolley is pleased to advise that ParaVolley Egypt has been chosen by the Board as the host of the 2020 Sitting Volleyball World Cup (men and women), replacing China at the last minute, due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The inaugural World Cup competition will take place in Cairo, Egypt from the 24th to the 30th of April – thus ensuing that new athletes can become eligible for Tokyo 2020.

World ParaVolley President, Barry Couzner OAM said:  “This is a very pleasing outcome for the athletes since there was a strong possibility that the event would not proceed at all, given the tight timeframes, and we are indebted to ParaVolley Egypt for their support of World ParaVolley at this difficult time”.

The ParaVolley Egypt President, Dr Hossam Eldin Mostafa said “We will do our best to organise such a big competition….I believe we have a very short time, but with kind cooperation and support we will organise the best competition”.

The World Cup for men and women will offer World Ranking Points to participating teams that may affect their seeding for Tokyo 2020 and the respective men’s and women’s winners will qualify for the 2022 World Championships.  Despite the coronavirus situation, it is expected that at least 20 teams will participate.
