President of ParaVolley Africa, Dr. Hayat Khattab, was recently appointed to the Egyptian El Sheyoukh by the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
The El Sheyoukh is an Upper House of Parliament like a Senate and has 100 appointed members, of whom only 20 are women, so it is a prestigious position that Dr. Khattab has attained. The El Sheyoukh is an entity of experienced and professional people from different areas of society in Egypt (women, business, economics, education) and is empowered to advise the President and the government on various matters.

Dr. Khattab was the second female selected by the President after her swearing-in ceremony said: “It is a great responsibility and I hope I will be able to achieve something for para athletes.”
World ParaVolley President Barry Couzner OAM said: “This is an incredible honour for one of our most important Board members in Dr. Khattab and we are fortunate to have her within our ParaVolley family at World ParaVolley”.
Dr. Khattab is a professor of business Administration and Human resources at the American University in Cairo and the Misr International University in Cairo. She has been involved in the Paralympic Games since 2011 as a member of the board of the Egyptian Paralympic Committee. In 2012 she was elected as the Vice President of the Egyptian Paralympic Committee, and is now its President. In 2011 she was nominated as the general secretary of ParaVolley Africa and has been President since 2013.
